Introducing Forgotten Patients, Overlooked Diseases: Giving a Voice to the Invisible

In every health system, there are patients who fall through the cracks. They are often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or entirely overlooked — not because their suffering is any less real, but because their conditions don’t fit neatly into diagnostic boxes. These are the people we advocate for.

Forgotten Patients, Overlooked Diseases is a UK-registered charity (Charity Commission No. 1202442) dedicated to raising awareness and driving change for those living with Medically Unexplained Symptoms (MUS) and other under-recognised health conditions. Our mission is simple: to give a voice to those who feel invisible in the healthcare system.

Forgotten Patients

Why Forgotten Patients?

Many individuals with MUS experience a frustrating journey through healthcare — facing repeated tests, uncertain diagnoses, and, too often, the stigma of being doubted or dismissed. These patients are at greater risk of isolation, poor mental health, and inadequate care. Despite growing evidence that MUS affects millions globally, there remains a lack of coordinated research, clinical understanding, and policy focus.

We believe that no one should be left behind simply because their symptoms are complex or poorly understood.

What We Do

At Forgotten Patients, Overlooked Diseases, we work to:

  • Raise awareness among healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public

  • Amplify the voices of patients through storytelling, media, and public engagement

  • Collaborate with clinicians, educators, and researchers to improve consultation practices

  • Host events and campaigns that challenge stigma and promote compassionate care

We are building a movement to shift the conversation — from silence and scepticism to recognition and respect.

Join Us

Whether you’re a patient, healthcare professional, researcher, or ally, we invite you to be part of this journey. Together, we can ensure that no patient is forgotten — and no condition is overlooked.
